Nadia Whittome confirmed to speak at Notts Pride 2023
We are really pleased to confirm that Nadia Whittome is to speak at this years Notts Pride event.
Nadia Whittome is the Labour MP for Nottingham East. She was elected in 2019 at the age of 23, becoming Britain’s youngest MP. She regularly uses her position in Parliament to advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, including campaigning for a full ban on conversion therapy, supporting the demedicalisation of the gender recognition process and calling out transphobia in politics. She won the PinkNews Politician of the Year award in 2020 and DIVA magazine’s Unsung Hero of the Year award in 2023 for her work on LGBTQ+ rights.
What does Pride mean to Nadia?
Pride is, and has always been, a protest. The history of our movement is the history of resistance: from the Stonewall riots to the fight to save queer lives during the AIDS crisis, and from Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners to the long struggle against Section 28. Today, when LGBTQ+ people are under attack once again, it’s particularly important to remember the radical history of Pride and stand up, united, for our entire community – in particular for its most marginalised members. There is no pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.
